Detectives in Aldershot are appealing for witnesses after three incidents where offenders attempted to steal cash machines.

The first incident happened on April 30 in Odiham. A blue Mitsubishi Shogun was stolen from outside a house in Hartley Wintney on April 29.

The vehicle was then used in an attempt to steal a cash machine from the Texaco garage at Dunleys Hill in Odiham, shortly before 4am on April 30. The vehicle was found burned out in Bagwell Lane, Winchfield, shortly before 5am.

The second incident happened at about 4am on May 18. Offenders attempted to steal a cash machine from the Texaco garage in Reading Road Yateley. The machine was removed but abandoned nearby. A 4x4-type vehicle was used during the incident and was found burned out in Sandhurst.

The third incident happened at about 4am on May 22. Offenders attempted to steal a cash machine from the Texaco garage in London Road, Hook. Upon arrival, officers found that the cash machine had been pulled out of its housing and was lying on the garage forecourt.

Offenders didn’t manage to get any cash in any of these incidents.

Detective Inspector Darren Barrett said: “We believe these incidents are linked and are appealing for anyone who has seen any suspicious activity around cash machines at garages to contact us.

“We believe the offenders are using 4x4-type vehicles to try and pull the cash machines out of their housing, which would cause a considerable amount of noise and disturbance. So if you see or hear anything, please contact police immediately.”

Detectives are particularly keen to hear from the drivers of a moped and a car who were seen on the forecourt of the Texaco garage in Reading Road, Yateley, at the time of the incident on May 18.

Owners and employees of garages are also being encouraged to be vigilant and report anything suspicious to police immediately.
